NOTE: Overall length is approximate. Inlet / Outlet bushing lengths can vary some. Use the body length to determine what muffler will best fit your application. It may be necessary for an installer to shorten or lengthen the bushings, or modify the diameter for proper fit into your application. Powerstick bushings are expandable. An experienced exhaust installer will know how much the steel will stretch.

Sidepipe Insert Mufflers - popular on Corvettes & some Cobras.
The expanded ends slip just inside a 4" OD sidepipe - slots cut into each end can be tweaked slightly in order to keep constant tension against the inside of the sidepipe during exhaust heating & cooling cycles. This eliminates rattling & loose fits. Now you can have the unique chambered sound & superior flow through your sidepipes.
NOTE: 2.5" core versions are quieter than 3" core versions.

Thanks to L.B. of Scottsdale, AZ. for this clip. His car is a 1965 Corvette 327/365 HP. Here's his commentary:

I bought a 65 with sidepipes and posted a similar problem a few weeks ago. They were an original repro. of the GM's. Just yesterday (Mon.) I had the chambered portion removed and replaced with a section consisting of 1/2 chambered and 1/2 resonator made by Classic Chambered. ERIC at Classic, said he had never tried this particular combination and hoped it worked. I made an HD video of the before and will be doing one in a few days to show the difference. It may be hard to hear the sound difference on a computer. The sound seems to be reduced in volume by 1/4>1/3 of what it was. It is a lower rumble and they are still louder than most exhausts. The original sound was very annoying and the new sound has a much better tone. When I finish the video I'll post both of them. GOOD LUCK!

Polished 304 Stainless. (OE Tips were chrome plated – these will NOT rust or corrode!)
2-3/4” OD diameter like OE, with the inlet end swaged-down to 2.5” ID.
Mandrel-Bent. 12” Long & can be trimmed down to desired length.  Can be clamped or welded to chambered muffler outlet.

*This is a heavy, high quality stainless tip. Does have some slight tooling marks, but none on the actual turndown area which is all that is visible.

RESONATOR

CLASSIC CHAMBERED 12" RESONATORS

Resonators reduce noise levels without providing additional backpressure, & they reduce annoying resonance or "drone" in the 1800-2300 RPM range sometimes associated with performance exhaust systems. The Classic Chambered resonators are compact & can be installed into tight spots where there is a small straightaway section of pipe - like in tailpipes.

1. You can be QUIET & lose major HP (stock).

Exhaust Accessories for Cobras:

  • * 3.5" OD Aluminized Steel Mandrel-Bent Turndowns. (16-gauge, 12" long) *Cut to desired length & weld to muffler outlet. (Part #: 35-Tip)
  • * 3.5" OD to 3" ID Reducer. Trim both ends to fit. Cut at the transition area to fit just inside 3.5" OD collectors, butt-weld the 3" ID end to the muffler inlet. The goal is to smoothly "funnel" exhaust into the COBRAPACK Muffler. (Part #: 3530-AD)

Here is the procedure to install the inlet “funnels” – part # 3530-AD.
One end of the adapter is 3.5” OD, the other end is 3” OD.

Cut-off excess 3.5” diameter adapter – leave it a little big for further trimming/grinding as this will just barely fit inside of the merge collector 3.5” OD end: (all you are using is the flare area)

Photo showing the adapters trimmed – nice smooth transitions into the muffler flowpaths. All of this will hide inside the collectors & your collectors weld to the muffler body. This eliminates severe turbulence caused when stock type mufflers are welded to the collectors. Stock mufflers usually have internal cores / flowpaths of less than 2” diameter. Combine tiny cores along with sloppy transitions into the mufflers & this makes for really inefficient & restrictive exhaust. You will lose major HP & Torque because of this – small block or big block applications!

These photos show the 3-pieces that make a “re-do” of a Cobra sidepipe muffler. The 3.5” OD turndown fits over the 3” ID muffler neck – the muffler neck can be trimmed off or left on. You can re-use your turndowns, or purchase new ones from us. They can be trimmed to shorten the overall length or the turndown area of the spout. Our turndowns are mandrel-bent, 16-gauge aluminized steel. They can be ceramic coated or painted. They are made in the USA, like all of the products we produce.
